The Three Musketeers-

The adventures of a young man named d'Artagnan after he leaves home to become a guard of the musketeers. D'Artagnan is not one of the musketeers of the title; those are his friends Athos, Porthos, and Aramis.

Twenty Years After-

The fantastic adventures of the Three Musketeers continue - starting with an intrigue surrounding D'Artagnan who has, for twenty years, remained a lieutenant.

The final volume of D'Artagnan Romances: it is usually split into four parts, The Vicomte de Bragelonne, Ten Years Later, Louise de la Valliere, and the final portion is entitled The Man in the Iron Mask (a translation of L'homme au masque de fer.).

Queen Margery Series-

Also known as the "Valois Romances", the beginning of this series centers on the beautiful and proud Marguerite Valois, whose mother Catherine de Medici arranges a marriage to the Huguenot leader Henry of Navarre -- a marriage that pleases no one except the Queen Mother. Marguerite's brothers, who nicknamed her Margot and prize her with a love that borders on incest, are outraged. Then, just six days after the wedding, French Catholics massacre over 30,000 Huguenots on St. Bartholomew's Day. Both pawn and participant in this epic struggle, Margot is torn between family honor, her Huguenot lover, and the apostate husband she can no longer respect.

Chicot the Jester-

Amidst the conspiracy of the Holy League to make the Duke of Anjou king, Bussy d'Amboise falls in love with a lady of the court of Henry III -- a lady with a very jealous husband! (An abridged translation of La dame de Monsoreau.)

The Forty-Five Guardsmen (1847)-

A fairly accurate portrayal of the court of Henry III, most particularly a band of his guards, and their revenge upon the murderer of their former leader, Bussy d'Amboise.

The Count of Monte Cristo [1845]-

A classic adventure novel, often considered Dumas' best work, and frequently included on lists of the best novels of all time. Completed in 1844, and released as an 18-part series over the next two years, Dumas collaborated with other authors throughout. The story takes place in France, Italy, and the Mediterranean from the end of the rule of Napoleon I through the reign of Louis-Philippe.

The Black Tulip (1850)-

This exciting novel takes place a few years after the historical tragedy of the lynching of the Dutch Grand Pensionary Johan de Witt and his brother Cornelis. The city of Haarlem has offered a large prize to the person who can grow a black tulip -- a feat nearly completed by young Cornelius van Baerle when he is suddenly thrown into prison!
